My love for vintage clothing started way back when I was a Freshman in high school. My parents used to give my siblings and I each $100 to spend on our school clothes every year, and that didn’t go very far. The older I got the smaller that budget seemed, and so that year I decided I was going to take my $100 to the Family Thrift and see what I could get. I was hooked. All of a sudden I had comfy cardigan sweaters, vintage dresses, boots, jeans that were already worn in, comfy t-shirts with strange sayings, so many things that I knew no one else was going to have and I loved it! I got a ridiculous amount of clothes with that $100 and I started to wonder why everyone else was paying so much for brand names and cheaply made clothing, just so they could look like everyone else.
I have always dabbled in sewing really simple sewing projects but my obsession for re-fashion started a couple of years ago when I lost about 30 lbs. Of course I was happy and proud of myself for losing the weight, but I was also sad that none of my cute clothes fit me anymore! I decided that getting an entirely new wardrobe for my new body was out of the question, and that it shouldn’t be that hard to use my sewing machine to fix the clothes to fit me again! I was so proud of myself for doing this, and pretty soon I started to look at all of the items I had been passing up in a new way. How easy it would be to take those hideous sleeves off of that cute dress! How much cuter that skirt would be if it were shorter! Or that… if it only had a collar! The possibilities were endless.
I live in Utah with my husband Thom, my two teenage daughters and our three Chihuahuas. I have recently quit my soul-sucking office job to focus on my passion full time. I am so lucky to have a husband who supports this and has so much faith in me! Life is too short, why not spend your time doing what makes you the most happy? Some of the refashioned items you will find in this blog are also available in my Etsy shop, Love Street Salvage along with other vintage pieces that I think you will love at great prices!
